Becoming a Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine
Today may have been Friday the 13th, but for me it has been a joyful day as I heard that I have been accepted as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine, as a member of their Hypnosis and Psychosomatic Medicine section.
I have to say I feel very touched to realise that famous Honorary Fellows include:
- Sigmund Freud !! - Founder of Psychoanalysis
- Charles Darwin
- Louis Pasteur
- Edward Jenner
The Society was established in 1805 as the Medical and Chirurgical Society of London, meeting in two rooms in barristers’ chambers at Gray’s Inn and then moving to Lincoln’s Inn Fields where it stayed for 25 years.
In 1834 the Society moved to Berners Street and was granted a Royal Charter by King William IV.
In 1910 the Society acquired the site on the corner of Wimpole Street, which was opened by King George V and Queen Mary in May 1912.
I have to say I was very touched when I saw the Motto of the RSM, which has been the motto of my Practice so far but I hadn't known it consciously before....
