Hypnotherapy for Food Addiction

Food addiction can reveal itself in your life in many ways. You might feel as if you lack willpower or self-control around certain foods, even though you clearly demonstrate good self-discipline in other areas of your life.

You might experience feelings of shame, guilt or hopelessness around your relationship with food. You might try to control/restrict eating at times and even succeed for a while, only to find that it never lasts long and every time you go through that cycle knocks your self-esteem even more. You might blame yourself, feeling somehow you are ‘weak’ or not ‘normal’ and these feeling make it harder and harder to talk about. Food addiction can be a lonely and isolating struggle.

Answer each of the following questions as honestly as you can. If you have answered YES to any one of these, you may be suffering from a food addiction.

  • Have you ever wanted to stop eating and found you just couldn't?
  • Do you think about food or your weight constantly?
  • Do you eat to escape from your feelings?
  • Do you eat when you're not hungry?
  • Do you find yourself attempting one diet or food plan after another, with no lasting success?
  • Do you eat differently in private than you do in front of other people?
  • Do you eat large quantities of food at one time?
  • Have you ever thrown food away, only to retrieve and eat it later?
  • Do you eat in secret?
  • Do you ever fast or severely restrict your food intake?
  • Have you ever stolen other people's food?
  • Do you ever hide food to make sure you have "enough"?
  • Do you frequently feel guilty or ashamed about what you've eaten?
  • Do you feel hopeless about your relationship with food?

When we eat, our brain will release 'feel good' chemicals called neurotransmitters such as dopamine into the body to relax and reward us. If you like this is the primitive brain reminding us to look for food and remember where food is. This primitive reponse is very strong around sweet sugary food and also fatty foods - ie the food that are high calorie and when we were cave women we really needed to remember where the sweet and fatty food could be found, not just for our own survival but also to feed our families. Think about it,I don't imagine you ever sit on the sofa in the evening being plagued by thoughts of the carrots in your fridge, but boy will that packet of biscuits or that bar of chocolate play on the mind!! This is survival instinct and biology. It is not your fault that you can't get cake out of your mind. At the root of many food addictions is the sense of 'not feeling good enough' and needing to medicate this feeling by eating. Its not about the cake itself but how the cake makes you feel ( warm, safe cosy, or cared for just like when granny used to make you muffins). The truth is you can feel good, in fact even better, without overeating foods. Food to a great extent is just fuel - the rest  if you like is 'mind games'.

How Hypnotherapy for Food Addiction Can Help

Hypnotherapy offers a powerful, safe and approach to overcoming food addictions that allows us to address the causes of your destructive eating behaviours at its root within the subconscious mind. As you gain more insight and awareness around what triggers and drives your food addiction, you begin to see unhealthy eating habits fall away. You feel more sense of control around eating naturally and gently, without having to force control. Self-trust builds and with that self -esteem and self confidence develop. As eating habits improve, your body will find its own natural best shape, size and weight for you naturally.

We deal with the emotions around eating, helping you to reclaim self awareness of your natural 'just pleasantly full feeling' and being able to stop eating at that point. Hypnotherapy can help weaken the link between negative feelings and eating, so that it becomes easy for you to only eat when you are truly hungry and find appropriate healthy ways to handle other feelings and emotions such as angry, hurt, loneliness, sadness, boredom that previously may have been triggers for you to eat.

Within your subconscious mind and your body, are the pre-sets and programmes for a healthy eating habit without compulsion or addiction.
