What is Psychotherapy?

Psychotherapy is a special kind of relationship that aims to help you gain insight into your difficulties or distress, establish a greater understanding of their motivation, and enable them to find more appropriate ways of coping or bring about changes in their thinking, feelings and behaviour.

Psychotherapy involves exploring feelings, beliefs, thoughts and relevant events, sometimes from childhood, in a structured way with someone trained to help you do it safely and effectively.

If you like, psychotherapy is a journey you embark upon with the therapist as your guide to discover more about the strengths and wonders of your true authentic self.

My Approach to Psychotherapy

My approach is described as Integrative Psychotherapy. This means that rather than focusing on only one style of therapy (such as cognitive behavioural therapy),  I bring together a range of therapy approaches to help you achieve your goals. This means I take the very best of what works and have many 'tools in my toolbox'.  I do not believe in a 'one size fits all' approach to therapy. Each therapy is tailored to the individual and ultimately is a co-creative process.

As an experienced psychotherapist, I have training and experience of a range of therapy approaches including integrative, transactional analysis psychotherapy, inner child therapy, hypnosis, cognitive behavioural therapy, person centred therapy, psychodynamic therapy, trauma therapy, EMDR, mindfulness based therapy, therapeutic art.

Medical Doctor Trained

I have run private therapy practices since 2005 (in Chester, Rodney Street Liverpool, Harley Street London, Online) but prior to that, I worked as a medical doctor for over 11 years in the NHS. This background and experience greatly influences the work that I do as a therapist now and my medical knowledge and expertise most clients find invaluable to the therapy service I offer today.  I remain a registered medical practitioner with the General Medical Council.

Who Do I Help?

My practice specialises in working with women who are struggling with a range of issues including stress, unhappiness, anxiety, grief, loss, breavement, trauma, anxiety, alcohol, chronic illness, relationships, divorce and more. Some women I work with are less sure what is causing their distress, it feels less tangible.
